Launch

ZoneTick will launch for the first time upon installation. Later, it will auto-launch every time you enter Windows. Launching ZoneTick manually can be accomplished from the Start Menu (Start - Programs - ZoneTick - ZoneTick).

Exiting

There is no necessity to close ZoneTick, as it will safely switch off on its own, when you exit Windows.

If it becomes necessary to immediately exit the program, then this can be done by selecting the Exit option from the options menu (you can call up the menu by right-clicking on any ZoneTick clock).

Getting Familiar with ZoneTick World Time Zone Clock

Right-click anywhere on the ZoneTick clocks to view this menu:

Right-click menu for Trial Version

Here are the options on this menu:

  • Adjust Date/Time - takes you to the native Windows clock settings.
  • Preferences - launches ZoneTick main configuration dialog (explained below).
  • Show reminders - displays ZoneTick Reminders and Alarms window.
  • Add new clock - opens the preferences window, adds a new clock, and offers to configure it.
  • Delete clock - opens the preferences window and deletes the selected clock. You need to press OK to confirm deletion.
  • Calendar - shows ZoneTick Calendar on desktop.
  • Time converter - shows ZoneTick Time Converter on desktop.
  • Buy now (trial version only) - allows you to buy the product.
  • Check for updates - checks a web site for updates to the product (note: this option may not be available for some enterprise installations).
  • Online help - forwards the product to online help (this page).
  • About ZoneTick - provides information about the product.
  • Exit - exits ZoneTick program.

Each clock displayed by ZoneTick has a ToolTip that displays the current date for the clock plus the ToolTip text you specified in Preferences when you defined the clock settings. The date in ToolTip is displayed in the long date format as specified in your system regional options. Place your mouse pointer over any of the clocks to see its ToolTip.

Configuring

The Preferences window is displayed whenever you double-click or right-click and invoke Preferences on any of the clocks. Here is what that window looks like:

General preferences window

General preferences window

The options in the preferences window are:

  • Auto-start ZoneTick on Windows logon - toggles whether ZoneTick will auto-launch on windows start-up.
  • Appearance (skin) - allows you to choose from a list of skins to customize ZoneTick's appearance.
  • Use transparent skins - removes a skin's background.
  • Overlay prefixes on analog clocks - when checked allows for prefixes to overlay onto analog clock skins, otherwise prefixes show up separately - either below or to the left of clocks.
  • Show only N clocks in taskbar - allows you to select how many clocks to display in taskbar (1-10). Notice that this restriction does not affect tooltip where all configured clocks (up to 30) are displayed when "Show all clocks in tooltip" is chosen. This is convenient for people with the need to monitor many time-zones, who don't want to clutter their taskbar.
  • Show all clocks in tooltip - all clocks will be shown simultaneously in tooltip when this option is checked.
  • Internet time - uses the internet to synchronize all clocks with accurate time. The drop-down menu allows you to select a server, and the "update now" button allows you to synchronize with that server.

  • Clock tree - shows all your clocks. Selecting any one clock will bring up its individual settings. You can enable or disable any clock in the tree list by toggling its checkbox. Disabled clocks are hidden to save space in the taskbar. Notice that disabled clocks can still have active alarms. This is useful when you want to be notified about something happening in another time zone but do not wish to monitor its time visually.
  • Add and Remove buttons - allow to add or delete items. These buttons are context-sensitive and will operate on different items depending on your selection in the tree. You can easily add or remove clocks, alarms, and backgrounds.
  • Move Up and Move Down buttons - allow to rearrange items in the tree.
  • Prefix - an optional typed prefix to be displayed in front of a clock, for convenient identification.
  • Timezone - allows to select a timezone for a selected clock.
  • Adjust for daylight saving time - defines whether this clock automatically adjusts for daylight saving time changes.
  • Time format - defines the format of time for this clock. Digital skins follow the format precisely. Analog skins pay attention only to the choice of seconds in the formatter. In other words, if you want to see running seconds on an analog clock please select a formatter with ss in it. You can type in your own format identifiers for both time and date.
  • Date format - optionally defines the format of date for this clock. Multi-line notations are supported via the special symbol \n.
  • Action on double-click - defines the function that the program will execute on double-clicking the selected clock.

Displaying Calendar

Right-click on your clocks and select the "Calendar" option to show ZoneTick Calendar on desktop. Left column represents week numbers from the beginning of the year. Notice that week numbers may be shown on clock faces, too, via "w" or "ww" date formatters.

Right-click on the clocks and select the "Time converter" option to display it on desktop. To determine the time in another time zone, which corresponds to the specific time in your time zone simply select the date and time on any of the clocks displayed and all other clocks will momentarily show their corresponding times and dates.
